Have you ever wanted to play in a band? Well now you can! We are a friendly and welcoming collective of young musicians; singers, guitarists, bassists, keyboard players and drummmers. If you are in Y7 or above, and have already started learning your instrument, then Band Skills is a great way to play music with others, and work towards a performance.
Our experienced tutors, Conor and Emma will help to lead your groups, and get you started on learning new songs, old songs, covers, or your own creations!
During each rehearsal we come together, share news, play team games, before splitting off into our bands to work on our music in our own studio space.
Our bands are developing all the time, often choosing their own material and musical direction, and also swapping roles within the group! We perform regularly in Sheffield at a number of venues.
We asked our students what they thought!
- Our favourite songs to play have been: Fly Away by Lenny Kravitz, Can't Stop by Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and Live Forever by Oasis.
- Our favourite venues to play at have been the Octagon Centre at Sheffield University, and the Foundry Recording Studio.
What to expect at your first rehearsal
If you think it might help, please share the Young Person’s Rehearsal Timeline with your young musician. This will give them an idea of what to expect when they arrive, the rehearsal and what to do at the end. Hopefully it will help calm some nerves :)
To join this group sign up online at least 24 hours before the first attended rehearsal.
