Intermediate Strings is the string section of the orchestra Young Sinfonia, but we have our own rehearsals, performances, and play our own music as a string group. We play all sorts of stuff from Handel to Pharrell Williams, with a focus on amazing string playing, detailed and thoughtful rehearsing, and loads of energy and passion. We usually play without a conductor which means we have to work to listen and communicate with each other but helps us feel it's really our performance. We get to decide on how to play our music as a team and ensemble members share their ideas because everyone has an important voice, and we want to help you find it. Members of our group are usually roughly grade 3-5 level and between the ages of 12-15 but there's always variation and we take every person individually, so if you think you might enjoy being a member of this ensemble, we'd love to hear from you. Please get in touch, we're always happy to have a chat.
Children playing the following instruments are welcome:
- Violin
- Viola
- Cello
- Double Bass
What to expect at your first rehearsal
If you think it might help, please share the Young Person’s Rehearsal Timeline with your young musician. This will give them an idea of what to expect when they arrive, the rehearsal and what to do at the end. Hopefully it will help calm some nerves :)
To join this group sign up online at least 24 hours before the first attended rehearsal.
Please note we only accept new members into this group in the first half of every term (e.g. September to October, January to February, April to May).
