Kate Hartley (Woodwind)

Hi I'm Kate, I'm a saxophonist and clarinettist, but also teach flute and recorder. I started to learn the clarinet when I was 11 and picked up the sax when I was 13, and it's this that's my real love! I grew up in Sheffield and played in many of the music service ensembles, performing all over the UK and across Europe before whizzing off to University in Huddersfield for my music degree and then on to the RNCM to complete a performance masters! However, Sheffield lured me back and I've been performing and teaching here, delivering 1-2-1, small group and whole class instrumental lessons since 2006. Performing and in particular ensemble playing is my real passion and I'm privileged enough direct our Senior Clarinets group and Young Sinfonia Orchestra! It's always an absolute pleasure working with children and young people, helping them along their musical journey!

Some things about me :)

  • Favourite song/piece of music - ooo too hard but possibly I Want To Break Free by Queen
  • Favourite thing to do outside of work - going on crazy adventures with my children
  • Favourite food - chocolate/cake
  • Favourite place in Sheffield - my parents house although my friends might say Meadowhall..!
  • One thing about me that would surprise you to know - I can tap dance
