Rory Evans - Assistant Project Officer
I have been interested in music from the age of 8, when I picked up a cornet for the first time. It was something that I quickly fell in love with, and I have continued to play cornet/trumpet ever since. I enjoy playing in a variety of styles and performed with the University of Sheffield’s Wind Orchestra, Brass Band, Big Band and in the Performing Arts Societies’ Pit Band whilst studying music at the University of Sheffield. I am now enjoying freelance playing/session work with bands such as Jukebox Band, New York Brass Band, Josie and the Majestics and the William Hepworth quintet.
I also love getting involved in many various local bands/musical activities, whether that be playing with Peak Wind Orchestra, volunteer teaching with Sheffield Music Hubs Big Band, my time on the committee of the University of Sheffield Big Band, Saturday Music School at Leeds Conservatoire or going to play with youth bands such Revo Street Band.
Having now graduated I am excited to be a part of the Sheffield Music Hub team and feel passionate about providing children with the opportunity to get involved with music because of the positive impact it had on me growing up.
Some things about me…
- Favourite song/piece of music – Strasbourg St Denis by Roy Hargrove
- Favourite thing to do outside of work – it’s a bit predictable, but it does have to have to be playing my trumpet!
- Favourite food – some pub grub
- Favourite place in Sheffield – Endcliffe park
- One thing about me that would surprise you to know – I used to play a lot of ice hockey.
