Monster in the Maze - Senior Strings
Do you play a string instrument at grade 6+ level?
Do you want to join the orchestra for a ground breaking opera production at the Crucible Theatre?
You will join Sheffield Music Hub Senior Strings and Sheffield Music Academy to form an orchestra to perform alongside professional musicians from Music in the Round and the Consone String Quartet.
The Opera Monster in the Maze by composer Jonathan Dove will be performed live on stage at the Crucible Theatre on the 1st and 2nd of November 2024 and you have the opportunity to join forces with some outstanding musicians for this special community opera.
Led by Musical Director and Sheffield Music Hub Music Leader John Lyon you will prepare the beautiful music through a series of weekly rehearsals and weekend workshops.
The commitment is:
Launch weekend in central Sheffield - Venue TBC
Saturday 31 August and Sunday 1st September 10.30am – 4.30pm
Rehearsals at 6.15pm – 7.15pm at All Saints Catholic High School
Thursday 12th, 19th and 26th September
Thursday 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th October
Performance Week: (Please note this is during October Half Term Holidays)
Sunday 27th October – Full cast rehearsal
Wednesday 30th October – Stage and Piano Rehearsal
Thursday 31st October – Dress Rehearsals
Performance Weekend:
Friday 1st November – PERFORMANCE 1 – 3pm
PERFORMANCE 2 – 7:15pm
Saturday 2nd November – PERFORMANCE 3 – 11:00am
PERFORMANCE 4 - 3:00pm
You must be able to commit to all of the rehearsals and workshops in order to take part.

The cost of taking part is £99.
Participation is FREE if you:
- Are in receipt of free school meals
- Are Looked After
- Already attend a Music Group run by Sheffield Music Hub (Band C subscription)
