Director Role – Sheffield Youth Choirs Youth Voices (Intermediate Choir for Year 7 - Year 9) 

Sheffield Youth Choirs and Sheffield Music Hub are seeking an experienced and inspiring musician and educator to lead their intermediate choir, Youth Voices. The Sheffield Youth Choirs, by Sheffield Music Hub, are a growing community of singers of over 160 young people across four choirs – Mini Voices (launching imminently), Junior Voices, Youth Voices and our senior choir Concordia Voices. The majority of singers in Youth Voices progress from our younger choir Junior Voices.

The choir will rehearse on a Monday evening at our studios in central Sheffield from 7:15 – 8:15pm. You will work alongside a professional accompanist to develop the choir, build your community and prepare for collaborative performances alongside the other choirs and our wider music groups (Sheffield Music Hub runs 34 music groups across all styles and genres).

Rehearsals – weekly rehearsals on a Monday evening in term time (usually around 34 weeks a year)

Concerts – performances at concerts and events, usually 3 per year

Meetings – Sheffield Music Hub ensemble directors’ meetings (1 per term), vocal team meetings (usually 1 per half term)

Commitment

The role is a freelance role, as a supplier to Sheffield Music Hub via Sheffield City Council. The annual pay is around £3500 per year subject to the number of rehearsals and performances (illustrative break down here).

Person specification

  • Strong musicianship skills
  • Community and Young Person focussed
  • Able to support teenagers through life and vocal transition
  • In-depth vocal knowledge
  • Previous experience of developing and growing a musical / choral community
  • A willingness to collaborate and bring young singers with you on the development of the choir
