Brass Extravaganza 2026 – A Celebration of Sheffield’s Young Brass Players

We had an amazing Brass Extravaganza at Victoria Hall on Monday 18 May, as over 160 musicians took to the stage for Sheffield Music Hub’s Brass Extravaganza 2026. It was wonderful to see so many brass players come together for the concert.

The concert showcased an incredible musical journey, from young brass players in their first year of learning to professional performers. We heard from Sheffield primary schools, Sheffield Music Hub’s Firth Park Community Brass Band, Sheffield Music Hub’s Senior Brass, and the amazing Old Silkstone Brass Band.

Thank you to all the Sheffield primary schools who joined us:

  • Arbourthorne Primary
  • Beck Primary
  • Windmill Hill Primary
  • High Green Primary
  • Meersbrook Bank Primary
  • Totley All Saints Primary

This event highlighted the progression of brass playing. It was particularly special for the young players to see Old Silkstone, a championship section brass band, performing live. Many of the young musicians will never have had this opportunity before and were able to see where their musical journeys could take them. It was also a fantastic experience for the young musicians to perform alongside Old Silkstone in the massed performance of Shotgun.

A very special thank you goes to The Sarah Nulty Power of Music Foundation, whose generous funding of £750 made the event possible. Their support has been vital in making the event a reality.

Thanks must also go to pBone Music UK for their sponsorship of the Firth Park Community Brass Band. As they perfectly put it, “Sheffield is most definitely super when it comes to music.”

Finally, huge recognition must be given to Andy Harris, our music leader and the visionary behind the entire Brass Extravaganza. His passion brought the event to life. He also had four costume changes, depending on who he was performing with or conducting - what a legend!

The Brass Extravaganza 2026 was an inspiring, uplifting celebration of music education and community, and a brilliant reminder that the future of brass playing in Sheffield is in very safe hands.
