Jay Clarke (Rap/Vocal/Music Production)

Hi, I’m Jay! I’m a Rap, Singing, and Music Production tutor based in Sheffield. I started singing as a child in my church's gospel choir and began rapping at 13. My passion for recording my own raps led me to dive into Music Production, eventually earning a 1st class degree with Honours in Music Technology in London.

I've released my own albums and produced music for other artists. While in Belfast, I was named one of the top 22 artists to watch in 2022. As a rap tutor, I've had the chance to teach an actor to rap for a lead role in a Disney film released in 2023. Recently, I tutored and helped organise a group of young Sheffield rappers to create a collaborative verse for Stormzy's ‘Blinded By Your Grace'. The verse was performed live and the music video created for it was featured at the MOBOs. 

Some things about me...

• Favourite song/piece of music - it changes all the time, right now it’s Time by Hans Zimmer
• Favourite thing to do outside of work - Other than make music, sing karaoke with my wife to keep our son entertained (also travel!!)
• Favourite food - Our Jamaican Christmas Dinner (Rice & Peas and my mom’s Lamb, Salmon etc)
• Favourite place in Sheffield - Hillsborough Leisure Centre, although Ponds Forge is a very close second!
• One thing about me that would surprise you to know - I once met Ed Sheeran and rapped my lyrics while he played ‘Shape of You’ on his guitar.
