Dr Catherine Carr (Acoustic/Classical Guitar and Ukelele)

My name is Catherine and I teach classical and acoustic guitar, steel pan and ukulele to individuals and groups. I've been a musician for many years in a long career influenced by different musical styles and cultures. Diversity across age, culture and ability is an important part of my consistent track record of musical experience in teaching, coaching, mentoring and performing. I especially enjoy inspiring new generations of musicians and have led music ensembles for students to showcase their talents and gain in confidence. As a solo musician I perform and record internationally and collaborate with various acclaimed artists. I have a PhD, an MPhil and a B.A. (Hons) in Music and have shared my musical passion with audiences at the BBC and international conferences and events. Closer to home I play guitar in hospitals as part of the Sheffield Arts in Health project.

Some things about me...

  • Most memorable performance in my proffesional playing career: There have been many, but two WOMAD festival appearances (BBC Stage, and Siam Tent) and Mundial Montréal Canada stand out!
  • Favourite song/piece of music: Loads!
  • Favourite thing to do outside of work: Meeting friends
  • Favourite food: Mac ‘n’ Cheese
  • Favourite place in Sheffield: Home
  • One thing about me that would surprise you to know: That I’m easily surprised!
