Chris Barron (Brass)

My name is Chris and I am a brass tutor with Sheffield Music Hub. My main instrument is tuba and I started playing brass instruments aged 10. I'm originally from Sheffield and even played in Music Hub ensembles whilst I was at school. After leaving school I went to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where I also took the LRAM teaching diploma. I then studied in Hannover in Germany and have just moved back to Sheffield to start a career of teaching and playing tuba. I have played with professional orchestras in the UK such as the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, as well as orchestras in Denmark and Germany. I have also been a substitute teacher for the Sheffield Music Academy, and run the Junior Band of the newly formed Crookes Brass Band.

Favourite piece of music: Symphony Number 2 by Sergei Rachmaninov

Favourite thing to do outside work- cycling, always a challenge in hilly Sheffield

Favourite food- curry, any kind!

Favourite place in Sheffield- redmires reservoir, best place to walk the dog!

Surprising fact: I can speak 3 languages
