Instruments: Clarinet, Oboe and Saxophone

Jan began her musical adventure through the ‘Sheffield Music Services’ system of youth orchestras, concert bands and a youth jazz orchestra.

Having studied the oboe with Ian Hamilton, Jan has benefited from exceptional quality tuition and as a member of the ‘British Double Reed Society’ has had access to recitals and master classes tutored by world renowned oboists. She has been involved with a number of local orchestras which perform concerts on a regular basis and orchestral tours have taken her to play in numerous concert venues in Greece, Malta, Gozo, Sardinia, also including freelance engagements in northern Italy. Small chamber ensembles have also been a feature, playing for weddings and functions formal and informal including various charity events.

At the present time Jan is a member of the Sheffield Philharmonic Orchestra and is an occasional extra player with the Sheffield Symphony Orchestra and the Hallam Sinfonia.

Jan has a busy teaching schedule offering oboe, clarinet and saxophone tuition in schools and privately, tutoring individual lessons and small ensemble groups of beginners to advanced.

As an oboe specialist Jan also has a reed making business supplying high quality hand made oboe reeds to students, amateurs and professional oboists and offers workshop tuition in oboe reed adjustment.
