Sheffield - A musical city!

Published on 03/10/2024

As part of our collaborative work with The University of Sheffield we have been lucky enough to welcome in a Japanese exchange student from Hiroshima University!

Rika, a Japanese exchange student, is joining us to complete her PhD on the impact of UK Music Hubs on children's and young people's education – both inside and outside of school. Sheffield Music Hub will be her case study!

In Japan, there are no music hubs, making quality music education more challenging. Rika is eager to explore how the Uk Music Hub model can transform learning experiences, as Japanese primary school teachers with limited musical expertise often provide only basic instruction. She’s here to witness first-hand how Uk Music Hubs help to provide access to quality music education for children and young people.

But why has Rika come to Sheffield and not chosen another UK city? Rika shared “Sheffield is one of the most famous UK cities for music”. Did you hear that? Sheffield is a famous musical city, and we are incredibly proud to uphold the tradition of music within our great city!

Thank you to The University of Sheffield for making this research possible!

Rika also brought this little gadget that draws a stave for you, all the way from Japan for us.
