National Youth Orchestra - Unite!

The National Youth Orchestra is coming to Barnsley, and we want to meet YOU!

If you are a local musician aged 11-18 (KS3 or above) and play any instrument at Grade 3 level or above, come and join the NYO Open event, a free creative day of music-making, during NYO Unite in Barnsley.

Connect with other young musicians, learn from our creative team and NYO alumni, and play your part in creating a brand-new piece, taking inspiration from orchestral music that NYO and NYO Inspire musicians will be exploring throughout the day. You’ll be amazed how easy it is to make music with new people.

At the end of the day, you’ll showcase your creation in a special NYO Unite sharing performance for your family and friends. Plus, you’ll get to enjoy a live performance by other musicians participating in NYO Unite, featuring the very music that inspired your own piece.

What is NYO Unite?

NYO Unite is an epic day of music-making with the entire NYO community, which takes place at six different locations across the UK this autumn.

Musicians from NYO and NYO Inspire will come together to explore music in instrument group and full orchestral rehearsals, working with conductor, Pablo Urbina, and NYO tutors.

If you would like to join the orchestral activity, apply to join NYO Inspire, a free musical adventure for teenagers who want music to be a bigger part of their lives but face barriers and lack of opportunity to progress. NYO Inspire is open to musicians aged 13-18 years, playing orchestral instruments at grade 6 to 8+ level. Find out more and apply here
