Music&Me Quiz: helping young people to understand their relationship with music
Music&Me Quiz: Explore Your Relationship with Music
Are you a young musician aged 11–18? We want to hear from you!
Professor Karen Burland is leading a fascinating research project on Musicians’ Identity—how people see themselves as musicians and how music shapes their lives. While we know a lot about adult musicians, we want to understand how young people develop their identities as musicians. That’s where you come in!
What’s involved?
We’re inviting secondary school-aged music learners to complete the Music&Me Quiz. It’s quick and easy:
22 multiple-choice questions and 4 short-answer questions.
Takes about 10 minutes to complete.
Questions cover your beliefs as a musician, plus some basics like age, instrument, and gender.
If you'd like to revisit your answers and access supporting resources later, you can provide your email address—but this is optional. Your responses will remain confidential.
Why participate?
By taking part, you’ll help us answer important questions like:
How do young musicians develop their identity?
How does this differ from adult musicians?
How can we use this knowledge to support and nurture young talent in music?
What it’s not about:
Your answers won’t be shared with tutors.
Your responses won’t impact grades or assess your skills.
How to take part:
Get your parent or carer’s permission.
