Music {Futures}: New Workshop to help Educators to Bring Music to Life
Maker Futures invites educators to take part in an inspiring Maker{Music} workshop at the University of Sheffield on Tuesday 24th June 2025, from 4–6pm.
This two-hour session will provide practical information and creative inspiration, along with five ready-made project plans to take away. The workshop and accompanying free resources are designed to help educators in schools, libraries, museums, and community settings run their own music workshops for families with children aged 6–12.
The session will:
- Introduce the four elements of music: rhythm, melody, harmony, and timbre
- Explore music-making using recycled instruments
- Cover the basics of writing and performing rap lyrics
- Demonstrate how to use spiral composition scores and rhythm squares to write and record a composition (with free apps if tablets or devices are available)
Participants will have the opportunity to try out the activities and take away everything needed to deliver them in their own settings.
