Choral scholarships - St Mark’s Church Broomhill

St Mark's would like to appoint 4 choral scholars from November 2024 for 9 months, with the option to extend this for a further 12 months. They’re open to suggestions about how the role should develop but they’re looking for

  • Someone who can make a regular (not necessarily weekly) commitment to music-making at the church, particularly at either the 10am Eucharist and/or the 7pm Night Service each Sunday.
  • Someone who can take a leadership role in the choir, for example by singing solos and being a strong member of their voice part

In addition they are looking for people who are keen to grow as musicians and be involved in leading music at St Mark’s. This might mean enhancing your skills as a singer so that the choir is able to undertake more ambitious anthems (for instance in more than 4 parts, or with solos), supporting projects (for instance we have just launched a children’s choir for 7-11 year olds) or something else. The music environment at St Mark’s is diverse, and they are looking for someone who is able to share responsibility for leading music at the church.

St Mark's can offer

  • Support to develop your musical skills
  • A supportive, well-resourced church environment that welcomes new ideas
  • An opportunity to be regularly involved in creative music-making to a high standard
  • Access to a Steinway Model D grand piano

St Mark's are applying for funding (£500 per scholar) to support the choral scholars’ musical education. They haven’t secured any yet but when we do, money will be available for anything that supports scholars’ musical development (eg singing lessons, exam fees, sheet music etc)

The successful applicants will be supervised by the Director of Music and will be expected to comply with the church’s safeguarding policy (details on St Mark’s website).
