James Humphries (Piano)

Hi! I’m James and I teach the piano and keyboard. I started playing the piano at the age of 6 and gradually worked my through the grades until, by the age of 18, I attained a piano performance diploma and began my undergraduate studies in Music at the University of Sheffield. I graduated in 2005 and have remained in the city ever since.

As well as teaching the piano I have a lot of experience as an accompanist, both for choral and instrumental ensembles and for graded music exams. I have played in a wide variety of venues in many different contexts and last year was lucky enough to perform in the Birmingham Symphony Hall as part of the Barnardo’s National Choir Competition. Whatever the occasion, it is always a privilege to support others in their music-making and help soloists deliver a performance to be proud of.

Some things about me...

  • Favourite song/piece of music – Too many to choose from! Anything with the piano and most things without.
  • Favourite thing to do outside of work – inflict my vegetarian cooking on my family.
  • Favourite food – anything spicy.
  • Favourite place in Sheffield – I love mooching around the Winter Gardens and Graves Art Gallery.
  • One thing about me that would surprise you to know – I am obsessed with the World’s Strongest Man.
