Sarah Hobbs (Brass and Strings)

Hi, I'm Sarah and I am a brass and strings tutor in Sheffield. My main instrument is trombone, but I also teach cornet, euphonium and violin.

I started playing violin when I was 8, and played in Sheffield Music Hub music groups, then later joining City of Sheffield Youth Orchestra. I took up the trombone later in school, joining a brass band and jazz band. I then went to study music at Newcastle University, where I concentrated further on trombone, playing in a variety of groups including a big band, R and B band and a New Orleans band. Now I’m back in Sheffield I’m excited to get stuck into the music scene and to encourage children on their musical journey!

  • Favourite piece of music: Impossible to decide on just one, but Everybody by Ezra Collective is definitely one of my favourites.
  • Favourite thing to do outside of work: Go outside and play sport with my friends or family!
  • Favourite food: Halloumi fries or garlic bread.
  • Favourite place in Sheffield: The Peak District.
  • One thing about me that would surprise you to know: I started playing ice hockey when I was at university!
