Performance Exams launch at Sheffield Music Hub

There was a real buzz of musical energy at our home at Red Tape this week as we welcomed students for our brand new Performance Exams.

Designed with young people at the centre, these exams offer a calm and supportive environment where young musicians can feel confident sharing their work. Each performer receives positive feedback alongside clear, constructive next steps to help them continue their musical journey.

Unlike traditional exam settings, our approach focuses on the joy of performing and celebrating progress. The exams are affordable and accessible, ensuring that more young people across Sheffield can take part. Every student also leaves with a personalised certificate and a music badge to mark their achievement.

The sessions were led by examiners Ian Naylor and Gillian Hume and these new Performance Exams are part of our commitment to making music inclusive, supportive and rewarding for all young people, whatever their starting point.
