Spotlight on the Young Producers Project
Spotlight on the Young Producers Project
At this year’s Gala Concert, we are proud to have nine brilliant young producers working with us to help make the event happen. These young people are gaining hands-on experience in technical production, stage management, communications, photography, and event delivery.

What they’ve been working on
Technical Assistants – Eliza and Henry
Eliza and Henry have been working closely with our technician, Rob Whitehead. They have been trained in how to record music and set up microphones ahead of the Gala Concert. Their recent training included recording our senior choir, Concordia Voices.
Lighting Assistant – Anna
Anna has completed hands on software training with Rob and Stream 7. She has been pre-programming all the lighting for the concert. Anna will then be operating this on the day.
Audio-Visual Assistant – Aubrey
Aubrey has been designing the background imagery that will appear on the Gala Concert’s big screens during the show. Aubrey has also been working with Rob in Q-Lab to create the pre-show slideshow and video reel.
Comms Assistant – Abi
Abi has attended rehearsals for our massed wind band and choir and captured a range of footage alongside Rory Evans. She has interviewed staff and young people ahead of the Gala Concert and has been trained in video editing so she can turn this material into short social media reels to build excitement for the event. She will also be capturing content on the day.
Front of House Assistant – Zeena
Zeena has met with Kelly Dwyer to review the Octagon Centre room plans and allocate green rooms for each music group. She will be making sure everything runs smoothly in these areas on the day.
Stage Management Assistants – George and Laurie
George and Laurie are meeting with Stage Manager Lucie Timm to go through the stage plans and prepare for seating arrangements, changeovers, and anything else they need to manage during the concert.
Assistant Photographer – Idina
Idina will be capturing key moments throughout the event as part of our photography team.
Preparing for the big day
All young producers will be joining members of staff for a pre-visit to the Octagon Centre to look around the space and discuss how everything will work on the day.
Why this project matters
This project is designed to equip young people with practical experience in event planning, event delivery, technical production, communications, and digital media. These are valuable skills for anyone considering a future in the music, events, or wider creative industries.
We are proud to be providing opportunities that inspire, educate, and prepare the next generation for exciting careers in music and events.
